Royal Gorge Route Railroad Guide
All Aboard for Adventure: Ride the Royal Gorge Route Railroad! Guide
Prepare for a breathtaking journey through the heart of the Colorado Rockies aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railroad! This isn't just a train ride; it's an immersive experience that combines stunning scenery, delicious dining, and a touch of history. Whether you're a seasoned rail enthusiast or simply looking for a unique way to explore the Royal Gorge, this scenic railway promises an unforgettable adventure. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad follows the historic Denver & Rio Grande Western line, carved into the granite cliffs of the Royal Gorge. The gorge itself was formed over millions of years by the Arkansas River, creating a dramatic canyon that plunges over 1,000 feet deep. The railroad's history is intertwined with the "Royal Gorge War," a fierce battle between the Denver & Rio Grande and the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroads for control of the lucrative route through the gorge in the late 19th century. Today, the railroad offers a peaceful and scenic way to appreciate this remarkable feat of engineering and natural beauty. Onboard, you can choose from a variety of seating options, from coach class to elegant vista dome cars. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared fresh in the onboard kitchen, ranging from casual lunches to gourmet dinners. As the train winds its way through the gorge, keep an eye out for wildlife, including bighorn sheep, deer, and eagles. The open-air gondola cars provide unparalleled views of the canyon walls and the rushing Arkansas River below. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad also hosts special events throughout the year, including themed rides and holiday celebrations.
